76Wow...What a awesome fighting machine! The A10 Warthog...Short for the A-10 Thunderbolt!
For sure...Beauty perhaps in the eye of the observer, but fear and awe is in the eye of enemy once the Warthog appears in the sky!
The A-10 Warthog...The 'flying gun' and the Tank vaporizer. This aircraft was utilized extensively during Operation Desert Storm, in support of N.A.T.O. military operations in reply to the Kosovo crisis, in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan and in Operation Iraqi Freedom. This mighty monster has struck fear into many a bad lands!
The A-10 Warthog is a high-survivability and flexible aircraft, popular with pilots since the 'get home' effectualness. The mission of the aircraft is ground assault against enemy tanks, armored vehicles and well fortified installations, and hand-to-hand air back-up of our ground forces.

The Thunderbolt is appropriate for operation from advanced air bases, with short take-off and landing capacity. The aircraft has a very long range of 800 miles, high survival rate and can hang around in the conflict area.
The maneuverability at slow speed and low height (below 1,000ft) permits precise and hard-hitting targeting and weapon delivery across various types of terrain.
The A10 Warthog 1st flew on May 10, 1972. Best depicted as a winged Gatling gun. The airframe is such that it's in essence configured around the Gatling gun itself. High battlefield survivability is constructed into the A-10 with accented titanium platen around the pilot and essential control components. Landing gear mechanism is separated to allow for optimal positioning of ordinance. The big General Electric turbofans are located high on the back fuselage exhausting higher up the tail planes to partly block out the infra red signature to ground based enemy missiles.
